Legacy of the Dragonborn
How to develop the Solitude museum, expand its displays, and use the main Legacy of the Dragonborn systems.
Legacy of the Dragonborn connects exploration, collecting, and many quests around a large museum in Solitude. Its curator, Auryen Morellus, introduces the player to the exhibits and helps begin the museum's story.
Speak with Auryen Morellus to begin the museum path and receive its first directions.
It is useful to visit the museum early so you know which discoveries it recognizes. The visit is not mandatory immediately after starting: finish setting up the character, learn the core Krosis systems, and reach Solitude at a comfortable pace. For a first playthrough, keep the First launch guide nearby.
What belongs in the collection
The museum recognizes many categories:
- named weapons and armour supported by the museum;
- books and artefacts;
- fossils, gems, and paintings;
- quest trophies;
- fragments recovered through archaeology;
- unusual items that have a dedicated place in the displays.
Retain unique items even when their display is not yet obvious. Do not sell or discard an important discovery simply because the current gallery has not recognized it: parts of the museum and their associated quests open later.
Curator's Companion and the displays
Curator's Companion adds indicators that help show whether the museum needs an item and whether it has been displayed before. Treat those indicators as sorting guidance, but check an item's description and quest context before selling or handing it over.
Sorting systems move eligible discoveries into museum storage, while the display system places recognized objects in their appropriate galleries. After an expedition, unload the haul, run sorting, and walk through the new displays so it is easy to see what was actually added.
Replicas can be crafted for some items that were lost or are still needed elsewhere. A replica can preserve the appearance of an exhibit while the original serves another purpose, but the system has limits. Not every item has a recipe, and availability may depend on finding or registering the original. Do not assume the museum can copy everything.
Museum milestones
The number and kinds of exhibits gradually unlock museum quests, rewards, new rooms, and expeditions. Return to Auryen after meaningful additions, and check letters, dialogue, and changes around the galleries. Events do not all begin in the same way, so exploring the world naturally is more reliable than trying to fill the museum in one burst.
The Safehouse becomes a useful base for storage, rest, and expedition preparation. Its Craftloot system lets crafting stations draw materials from available storage, reducing manual inventory transfers before crafting.
As the museum story develops, the Explorer's Guild expands the exploration side of the playthrough. The guild connects characters and expeditions with the search for new locations, relics, and archaeological discoveries.
A natural play loop
A comfortable rhythm is to explore a new area, complete ordinary quests, collect notable finds, return to the museum, sort the haul, update the displays, and speak with the curator. Then prepare in the Safehouse, use Craftloot for crafting, and leave for the next objective or Explorer's Guild expedition.
The museum is designed as a long journey. Not every unique item has a replica, and players should not expect to complete every collection in one run: quest choices and the character's route can make some exhibits unavailable. Follow the story of this playthrough instead of chasing a promise of a perfect counter.
